The Miami Beach Marlins defeated the Amarillo ThunderHeads, 6-3, in Western League action at Ballpark of Amarillo, with Miami Beach pitcher Shigeki Takeuchi named player of the game. Jose Aguilar earned his 32nd save in 37 chances. Amarillo's current losing streak has reached 4 games.

Miami Beach used the clutch hitting of Mike Sammons to capture the win. The third baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Marlins ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Miami Beach manager Alex Wood.
