In an outstanding mound performance, Oakland Oaks starter Chris Skelly fired a complete-game shutout against the Victoria Capitals at Oakland Oaks Grounds today.

Skelly was the key to the Oaks's 3-0 win. The 21-year-old right-hander was in high spirits on the mount for much of the game, his mood largely undented by the 5 hits and 1 walk he allowed.

"5 hits?" he said with a laugh following the game. "Listen, I'd be happy with a 30-hitter as long as it was a shutout."

Up to now Skelly has compiled an ERA of 2.23 with a 3-2 mark over 7 starts. He has 72 strikeouts in 60.2 innings and has held opponents to a .223 batting average.
