Emeralds Blank Tri-City, Mata Winner Monday, July 4th , 2050 It wasn't easy but the Eugene Emeralds made it look that way. Starter Jose Mata shut out the Tri-City Dust Devils despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Eugene Emeralds cruised to victory, 4-0. Mata allowed only 8 hits and rang up 12 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win. "It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up." To date this season Mata has no saves with a 4-8 mark and 5.04 ERA. |
