If there wasn't a history between John Clark of Los Angeles (NYP) and Cal Abbott of West Virginia, then there is one now. The incident between the two sparked a bench-clearing scrum with those two being the center of attention. Now they will miss 5 and 3 games respectively as a result of their actions. The league office announced their suspensions today.

"We're both really competitive," Clark said later, "and sometimes things go a little too far because of it."

Clark is batting .104 this year with 1 home run, 4 RBIs and 13 runs scored. He has 8 hits in 77 at-bats.

To this point in the season, Abbott has rung up no saves in 8 relief appearances. He has also crafted a 2.53 ERA, no wins and no losses and 17 strikeouts in 10.2 innings.
