Pirates Topple Reds, 9-1, as Rooney Shines
|
Behind a fine performance from Nick Rooney, the Pittsburgh Pirates knocked off the Cincinnati Reds, 9-1. Rooney went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 runs and drove in 5 for the Pirates. Josh Markham, the winner, improved to 3-2. He held the Reds to 1 run on 4 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 2. Tim Wichman collected his 2nd save.
In the bottom of the fourth, Pittsburgh left fielder Micah Boshnjaku had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 3rd and two out, Boshnjaku stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 2-1, Pittsburgh. For the game, he went 2-5 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI.
"I'm proud of the way our guys played today to come out with this win," Boshnjaku told the Pittsburgh Times.
The Reds fall to 10-17 and continue their unimpressive start to the 2049 season.
