					| Phillies Prevail, 3-1, Over Washington |
					| Philadelphia and Washington duked it out and the Phillies came out victorious.
The Philadelphia Phillies had to overcome a fine effort from Washington pitcher Kerry Baty to grab a narrow 3-1 win at Nationals Park. Baty went 8 innings and allowed 3 runs. James Woods Jr. got credit for the win, improving to 3-0. He allowed 1 run on 5 hits in 6 innings. Ken Tetzlaff recorded the save for Philadelphia, his 1st of the season.

Philadelphia used a well-timed hit by Chef Belew to capture the win. The catcher socked a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Phillies ahead, 3-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"It was a tough night at the plate," said Washington manager Mike Shore.

The Nationals, now 8-14, continue their sluggish start.
