Starting pitcher Matt Wheeler pitched well enough to help the San Diego Padres beat the Miami Marlins, 5-4. San Diego reliever Brad Kramer picked up the win, upping his record to 7-4. Link Zeller absorbed the loss. San Diego improves to 109-52 with the win. They lead their division by 2 games.
Houston, Texas-born Terry Tuckfard came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with the bases loaded and the Padres trailing 4-3, he hit a 2-run single to left to put San Diego on top.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said San Diego manager Robert Yoka.
