					| Marlins Shut Out Nationals, 3-0 |
					| In a low-scoring game between the Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals, pitcher Matt Payne was masterful on the mound. The Miami left-hander spearheaded his team's 3-0 win. Payne, the winner, moves to 3-4. He threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 2 walks. Tim Barnett notched his 1st save in 2 chances.
The Nationals had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Marlins going into the bottom of the second inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old left fielder Mike Gar came to the plate. Gar hit a 2-run home run on a 1-1 fastball from Washington hurler Danny Diaz. It was Gar's 14th home run of the year.

"We're stringing together some nice wins," said Miami manager Mike Scott.

The Marlins, at 44-53, have now won 4 straight.
