Cincinnati third baseman Saulo Maina played a vital role in his team's 6-3 triumph over Washington. He went 1-2 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for Cincinnati. Cincinnati reliever Brad Jonas picked up the win, upping his record to 3-3. Wayne McAllister was saddled with the loss. With the win over Washington, the Reds improved to 39-44.

Maina had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 1-2 fastball from Caleb Westbay, he banged a 2-run home run to center, giving the Reds a 5-3 lead. It was the 12th home run of the year for Maina.

"Nice to tuck this win away," said Maina.
