The Montreal Expos powered past the visiting Boston Red Sox, 9-6, in the opener of the Wildcard Series at Quebecor Stadium today. Montreal first baseman Steve Anderson went 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2, to lead the charge. The Expos now lead the series 1-0.

Montreal took a 8-6 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, when John Ham hit a clutch 3-run home run to bring Expos fans to their feet.

"We lost," Boston manager Rob Diederichs said later. "We'll deal with it. The series isn't over."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Quebecor Stadium in Montreal.
