					| Blue Jays Best Nationals, 5-2 |
					| The Toronto Blue Jays stymied the Washington Nationals, 5-2, at Rogers Centre. Steve Jordan had a good day at the plate. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 3 for Toronto. Toronto reliever John Brice picked up the win to move to 1-0. Kerry Baty suffered the loss. The Nationals, at 25-27, have lost 5 in a row.
The Nationals had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Blue Jays going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the speedster Brock Van Gilder came to the plate. Van Gilder hit a 3-run home run on a 2-1 fastball from Washington hurler Kerry Baty. It was Van Gilder's 11th home run of the year.

"The team always comes first, so pulling out the win on a day like today is the most important thing," Jordan told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
