					| The Washington Nationals faced a tough opponent in San Francisco pitcher Curt Howland, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Nationals Park by a final score of 4-2. Howland went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. The win for the Nationals raised their record to 17-17. 
 Bob Melley broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the eighth with a run-scoring  walk. It put the Nationals in front, 3-2. For the game, Melley was 1-2 with 2 walks.
 
 "I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Melley told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
