Boston starter Reece Nichols had a strong outing against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 5-3 win. Guadalupe Vasguez picked up the save, his 9th. Boston, now 21-11, has played well in the early going.

Boston used the bat of Kevin McCormic Jr. to capture the win. The left fielder jacked a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 5-3. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a dandy.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said McCormic Jr..
