Phil Zacharia of the San Diego Padres proved that you can step out of the shadows and onto the stage if you've got the talent and the drive to hone your skills. Hard work, long hours and a tireless resolve paid off for him today in the form of the National League Most Valuable Player Award.

Zacharia hit for a .370 average while collecting 175 hits, 33 doubles, 5 triples, 37 home runs, 99 RBIs and scoring 103 times.

He received 29 first place votes out of a possible 30. Sean Zielinski of the San Francisco Giants finished second in voting, while Andy Swaim of the Arizona Diamondbacks finished third.
