Smith Whacks 3 out of the Park for Missoula
Friday, October 9th , 2048
Mike Smith brutalized the Grand Junction Rockies pitching staff, launching three home runs in today's 37-13 victory at Suplizio Field. The Missoula Osprey shortstop was red-hot, the ball just exploding off his bat all day.
"I don't try to hit homers," he said later. "I try to go out there and put a good swing on the ball, and sometimes it is going to go out of the park. I didn't try to hit the first one or the second one or the third one."
For the game, he went 5-for-6 with 6 RBIs and 6 runs scored.
"Too much Mike Smith today," Rockies manager Ed Corona said. "That's my assessment of the game. That's what our problems boiled down to."
Mike Smith hit a solo-shot off Mike Pierce in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Mike Pierce in the 1st, was hit by a pitch in the 2nd, walked in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, doubled in the 6th, walked in the 7th, hit a two-run home run off Julio Marquez in the 8th and grounded out in the 9th.
This season in 116 games, Smith has hit at a .290 clip with 122 hits, 25 home runs, 87 RBIs and 123 runs scored.
