Cincinnati shortstop Saulo Maina had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Maina was 3-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice, even as Pittsburgh beat the Reds, 6-5. Jeremy Kennie locked down his 1st save. The win brings the Pirates to 3-7, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.

Chiel Palstermans hit a 2-run triple off Dave Rivera in the bottom of the eighth, which put the Pirates in front, 5-4. Palstermans had 1 single and 2 walks, in addition to the three-bagger. For the game, he went 2 for 3.

"Glad to see the fans get into it," said Palstermans.
