Atlanta catcher Terry Tuckfard was sensational. He was 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Cincinnati beat the Braves, 8-6. The save went to Eddie Grape, number 1 for him. The loss has the Braves at 1-1.
Cincinnati used the clutch hitting of Chris Grunwald to capture the win. The first baseman drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Reds ahead, 8-6. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
Grunwald said he was "thrilled" the fans had something to get excited about.
