The 8-5 Kansas City win over Detroit was due largely to Jose Pacheco. The Royals shortstop went 3-5 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. John Brooks earned the win for Kansas City. He lasted 8.1 innings, allowing 5 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 8. With the win, he raised his record to 5-11. Picking up the save was Asa Hahn. Kansas City took a 6-2 lead on Pacheco's 16th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which he hit off Chris Haselhorst in the top of the sixth, propelled Kansas City to the win.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Pacheco told the Kansas City Daily News.
