With first baseman Mike Gar leading the charge, the Miami Marlins defeated the New York Mets, 7-6, at Citi Field. Gar was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Miami reliever Adam Thomas was the winner. His record is now 4-4. Sam Schrecengost took the loss. The save was credited to Tim Barnett, his 28th.

Gar had a clutch at-bat in the top of the eighth for the Marlins. Coming up with the bases loaded and Miami trailing 6-5, he hit a 2-run single.

"We played hard and won," said Gar. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'

Miami's record now stands at 57-68, placing them third in the National League East Division.
