Mariners Squelch Athletics Offense in Shutout Win
The Seattle Mariners got a magnificent performance from pitcher Aidan Smith, who stifled the Oakland offense en route to a 3-0 Mariners win at Safeco Field. Smith went 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 9. His record improves to 7-10. Omar Colunga earned the save for Seattle, his 17th.

Harutomi Matsubara dealt the Athletics a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with the bases empty and Seattle leading 1-0, Matsubara hit a 2-2 slider for a solo home run.

"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Smith said after the game.

Seattle is now 63-60, Oakland 64-59.
