Guardians Fall Short, 5-4, at New York
|
The New York Yankees picked up a win at Yankee Stadium, knocking off the Cleveland Guardians, 5-4. On the mound for New York was right-hander John Brice, who played a pivotal role in the win. The winner was New York reliever Robert Cruz, now 4-1. The loser was Dennis Beals. New York, with the win, is 39-73.
Russ Shambaugh took Dennis Beals deep in the bottom of the eighth. His solo home run put the Yankees on top, 5-4. In all, Shambaugh had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Brice said.
