Wheeler Mows Down San Francisco in No-Hitter
The no-hitter is one of baseball's truly egalitarian achievements. It's done by the great and the not-so-great alike, and for nearly all of them it represents the pinnacle of a career. San Diego Padres pitcher Matt Wheeler had his moment today at AT&T Park, holding the San Francisco Giants hitless and beating them, 2-0.

"Everything was working for him," Giants manager Jobo Foster said. "He had a lot of late movement that seemed to cause the guys trouble, especially from the fifth inning on. He was in command."

Wheeler rung up 8 strikeouts, issued 2 walks and faced only 30 hitters in his historic outing. After the game, he spoke to BNN reporters in the San Diego locker room.

"I really got nervous in the last inning," Wheeler recalled. "I knew I had a chance at a no-hitter but it was hard to stay calm and concentrate. Thank goodness for my catcher. He told me he would do all the thinking and I could just concentrate on hitting his glove."

In 21 starts this year Wheeler has posted 13 wins while suffering 5 losses. He has pitched 137 innings, allowed 102 hits, struck out 144 and has a 3.42 ERA.
