Excitement reigned at Ballpark of Victoria today as Victoria Capitals hurler Josh Newell tossed a baseball rarity -- a no-hitter.

After defeating the Oakland Oaks, 5-0, he was swamped by reporters in the clubhouse for postgame comments.

"I'm just glad to be here," Newell said. "Today I just went right at the Oaks as hard as I could, as long as I could."

Newell chalked up 13 strikeouts and allowed no walks in his superb performance.

"I don't think they could have stopped him with a howitzer today," said Victoria manager Kristian Trompiz.

Currently Newell has a 5-0 won-lost record in 7 starts with a 0.59 ERA. He also has 72 strikeouts in 45.2 innings.
