Carrano Smacks 6 Hits for Buckeyes
Even as a kid, Jacob Carrano said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Illinois Field today, Carrano showed how well he learned that lesson.

The 18-year-old shortstop had 6 hits in 7 at-bats for the Ohio State University Buckeyes, helping his team knock off the University of Illinois Fighting Illini by a score of 21-2.

"They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did today."

Jacob Carrano singled in the 1st, doubled in the 2nd, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, flied out in the 7th, hit a two-run home run off Bryan Schauman in the 8th and singled in the 9th.

This year Carrano has socked 35 hits in 95 at-bats for a .368 average with 5 home runs. He is getting on base at a .402 pace and his totals also include 18 RBIs and 25 runs scored.
