Ruiz Spins Masterpiece, No-Hits University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
|
The Rice University Owls relied on no-hit stuff from starter Jose Ruiz to defeat the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Tar Heels 8-0 at Reckling Park today.
"It's quite a thrill," Ruiz told the media afterward. "This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can't believe I did it."
To get his name logged in the Dvision 1 records, he stopped University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill cold and hitless, surrendering 4 walks and fanning 9 of the 29 batters he faced.
Rice University manager Carlos Sencion was in a jovial mode after the game, kidding with reporters that Ruiz "made managing easy today."
"I didn't have hardly any decisions to make like I usually do," he said. "I didn't even have to come up with a pinch hitter."
