Salamanca Racks up 4 HR Against Cubs
Nothing could stop Nelson Salamanca today -- certainly not the Chicago (APP) Cubs pitching staff.

The 20-year-old first baseman for the Johnson City Cardinals sent 4 baseballs soaring out of Howard Johnson Field and made his name a part of history. Behind his barrage, the Cardinals took a 29-1 win over the Cubs.

"In the standings, a loss is just a loss, but this one was frustrating," Cubs manager Jose Sixtos said later. "He clobbered us."

Salamanca's dream game included 4 hits in 6 at-bats, 4 homers, 12 runs driven in and 5 runs scored.

"I know all the stories are going to be about me today, and that's OK," Salamanca told the press in the locker room after the game. "Next time, it'll be one of the other guys."

Nelson Salamanca hit a three-run home run off Bobby Almonte in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Masato Iwase in the 1st, walked in the 2nd, hit a GRAND SLAM off Masato Iwase in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Masato Iwase in the 4th, flied out in the 6th and grounded out in the 8th.
