Shields Tosses No-No Against Volcanoes
In a dominant outing, Mike Shields of the Batavia Muckdogs totally silenced the bats of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, finishing with a no-hitter.

In the Muckdogs' 29-0 victory, Shields faced only 28 batters, surrendered no hits, had 22 strikeouts and 1 walk.

"Honestly, I didn't even know the situation was what it was until the seventh inning," Batavia manager Connor Kaden said. "I happened to look up there to see how many hits we had gotten, and I happened to notice that they hadn't gotten any."

Commenting on the defeat, losing manager Serafino Brito had a "pretty simple" analysis of the game.

"The Muckdogs had all the hits and all the runs, so they won," he snapped. "But yeah, Shields pitched a heck of a ballgame."

This year Shields has worked 71 innings with 88 strikeouts en route to a 4-2 record and 2.66 ERA.
