Everything was working for Rodolfo Mendez today at Dwyer Stadium. He had the perfect delivery. The ball was moving. The fastball was working.

In an unforgettable performance, the 30-year-old Mendez fanned 22 Volcanoes and sparked the Batavia Muckdogs to a 32-0 victory over Salem-Keizer. He left Volcanoes hitters mumbling and muttering at the plate. And when he needed a strikeout, he got it.

"I don't know if there are many times that I've seen him throw better," said Batavia manager Connor Kaden. "His location and command were really something."

In addition to collecting 22 strikeouts over 8 innings, Mendez allowed 1 hit and no walks in a superlative outing.

"I thought I'd make it easy on the guys today," Mendez said with a smile.

Thus far this season, Mendez has worked 70 innings with 98 strikeouts en route to a 7-2 record and a 2.44 ERA.
