The California Angels defeated the Detroit Tigers, 6-5, at Comerica Park. California third baseman Preston Deakyne had a superb performance. He was 1-5 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The win belongs to Kyle Ehret in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Steve McGaughey took the loss for Detroit. Willie Nieto got the save, the 11th for him this season.

California took the lead in the top of the fifth when Deakyne hit a grand slam home run. His 10th home run of the season made the score 5-2, California.

"We'll sip on a cold one and savor this win," said Deakyne.
