Oakland Bats Go Silent in 6-0 Loss
|
Oakland got a decent performance from pitcher Franklin Rojas, but it wasn't enough to beat the Toronto Blue Jays. Toronto won the Rogers Centre contest, 6-0. Rojas threw 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. The winner in relief was Aaron Linkous. He is now 1-0. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. Toronto is now 32-18, 2 games up in the American League East Division.
The Athletics had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Blue Jays going into the bottom of the second inning. That changed quickly when the two-time Great Glove Award winner Michael Byrd came to the plate. Byrd hit a 2-run home run on a full count fastball from Oakland hurler Franklin Rojas. It was Byrd's 3rd home run of the year.
Byrd called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."
