Cubs Earn 5-4 Win Versus Cardinals
|
The Chicago Cubs racked up a win at Busch Stadium, bumping off the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-4. Josh MacQueen, who started for Chicago, pitched effectively for his team. MacQueen picked up the win for Chicago, going 8 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 2-3. George Poirier earned the save, his 7th.
Chicago used the clutch hitting of Efrain Vargas to snag the win. The first baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cubs ahead, 5-3. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," MacQueen said after the game.
The last-place Cubs improved to 23-26.
