The Boston Red Sox beat the Texas Rangers by a score of 9-7. Boston left fielder Joe Smack deserved the lion's share of the credit. Smack went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Red Sox. Boston reliever Fred Huber picked up the win, upping his record to 4-1. Adam Bonawitz absorbed the loss. Guadalupe Vasguez notched his 34th save in 37 chances.

The game was all tied up in the top of the eighth, until Smack delivered big-time for Boston, stroking a dramatic 2-run single off Adam Bonawitz. The game-changing hit put the Red Sox on top, 6-4.

"Winning is all that really matters and we got it done today," Smack told the Boston Bulletin.

The win gives Boston a season record of 75-65.
