Vasquez Homers Twice in 7-3 Mariners Win
The home crowd had a good time watching the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners get after it.

The timely hitting of Jose Vasquez helped the Seattle Mariners down the Oakland Athletics, 7-3. Vasquez slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for the Mariners. The winner in relief was William de Jesus. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 3.1 innings. He now owns a record of 10-3. David Sly got the save, his 25th in 33 chances.

The Athletics had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Mariners going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the slick-fielding second baseman Corey Ottinger came to the plate. Ottinger hit a 2-run home run on a 1-1 fastball from Oakland hurler Mike Pedigo. It was Ottinger's 12th home run of the year.

"I'm trying to keep it simple," said Vasquez. "Just do my job."

With the win, Seattle pushed its record to 75-61.
