The Seattle Mariners had to overcome a fine effort from Houston pitcher Bill Dillard to grab a narrow 2-1 win at Safeco Field. Dillard went 7.2 innings and allowed 1 run. Seattle reliever David Sly picked up the win, raising his record to 6-4. Seth Bowersox was tagged with the loss. The slumping Astros have lost 6 straight.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Seattle third baseman Jimmy Hammertime, facing Seth Bowersox, had a run-scoring ground out. It gave the Mariners the 2-1 win.
"Been a rough stretch for us," said Houston manager Dave DaSilva.
