The Boston Red Sox trumped the New York Yankees, 6-2, at Fenway Park. Boston designated hitter Robbie Rogers was terrific. He slugged 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. The winner was Reece Nichols, who threw 104 pitches over 8.2 innings. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 6 hits. The victory gives the Red Sox a record of 69-63.

Rogers contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Boston in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 2-1, Rogers took a circle change from Arturo Eli and stroked the home run to right-center. His 8th home run of the season allowed the Red Sox to leap in front, 3-2.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Boston manager Rob Diederichs.
