					| Pirates Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Giants, 5-3 |
					| The San Francisco Giants got a superb performance from pitcher Ted Mosley, but the Pittsburgh Pirates still won the game, 5-3. Mosley threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The winner in relief was Antonio Alvarez. He is now 4-0. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2 innings. With the win, Pittsburgh raised its record to 52-35.
The outcome might have been different for Pittsburgh, had it not been for Bubba Tierney, the slick-fielding shortstop . Tierney stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put Pittsburgh up, 5-3. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.

"This team is real focused right now," said Pittsburgh manager Kevin Giles.
