Dwain Ashford relied on excellent pitch selection and pinpoint control to hold Houston (WIN) hitless in a 5-0 win at Peoria Sports Complex today.

"Nobody goes out to pitch a no-hitter," he said later. "We just go out and try to get a win. A 10-9 win is better than a 1-0 loss. My pitching buddies might not be too happy giving up nine runs but a win is a win. The key to it today was I mixed my pitches well. I kept the Astros off balance and guessing the whole game."

The 20-year-old starter rung up 18 strikeouts and no walks in whipping the Astros.

"When a guy is throwing strikes the way he was and is locating well, it is going to be a long day for any club," Houston (WIN) skipper Grady Wells said.
