Velez Nabs NL Weekly Award Monday, August 22nd , 2044 So far in his young career, Gabe Velez has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the National League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts. The 24-year-old Augusta GreenJackets right fielder hit at a torrid .500 clip as he collected 12 hits in 24 at-bats, 5 home runs, 10 RBIs and 7 runs scored. On the year Velez is hitting .269 with 83 hits, 20 home runs, 67 RBIs, .373 OBP and has scored 59 runs. |
