Good production from first baseman Efrain Vargas helped the Chicago Cubs topple the Cincinnati Reds, 6-4. Vargas was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs for the Cubs. Chicago starter Chris Ishii was credited with the win after throwing 94 pitches over 6.1 innings. His record now stands at 2-0. George Poirier earned the save, his 1st.

Chicago used the bat of Kaeo Zirpoli to get the win. The center fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Cubs ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.

"We'll enjoy this win for now, but it's just one," Zirpoli told local reporters. "We've got to keep it going."

Cincinnati drops to 12-6.
