The San Diego Padres and starting pitcher Timóteo Metzener stifled the Pittsburgh offense en route to a comfortable 8-2 win at PNC Park. The win puts San Diego at 84-39 this season.

Jerry Luckwell, the 13-time All-Star , had a direct impact on the outcome. Luckwell contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put San Diego up, 3-0.

"Our guys are never satisfied," said San Diego manager Robert Yoka.
