					| 2044  is shaping up to be a forgettable year for the Atlanta Braves. 
 The New York Mets scored a tight 4-3 win versus the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field. New York pitcher Lewis Thorpe Jr. held his own in the contest. New York reliever Ron Hawkins was the winner. His record is now 5-5. Mike Aguilar took the loss. Sam Schrecengost notched his 14th save in 15 chances.
 
 Nelle van den Berg hit a 2-run  home run off Mike Aguilar in the top of the ninth, which put the Mets ahead, 4-2. In addition to the homer, van den Berg had 1 single and 1 double, while going 3 for 5.
 
 "Good pitching stops good hitting," said van den Berg. "And vice-versa."
 
 With the victory, the Mets upped their record to 74-41.
