Cubs Drop 5-3 Decision
|
Good production from catcher Lupe Covarrubias helped the Pittsburgh Pirates topple the Chicago Cubs, 5-3. Covarrubias went 2 for 3 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Pirates. Isaburo Ishihara, who went 7.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 8 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 6-9. Steve Grier, credited with the save, is now 25 for 25 in save opportunities.
Covarrubias had a timely hit for Pittsburgh in the bottom of the sixth. With Chicago trailing 3-2, he turned a 1-1 knuckleball into a 2-run double. It was his 6th double of the season, making it 4-3, Pittsburgh.
"Feels good to get the job done," Covarrubias said after the game.
Pittsburgh now has a record of 53-49 with the win.
