University of Toronto Takes Wildcards in Deciding Game
|
The Wildcards went the distance before it all was said and done.
The University of Toronto Marlies and the University of South Carolina Gamecocks went at it tooth-and-nail and when it was over at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, the winner was the Marlies.
They put away University of South Carolina 4-1 to cinch the series and won the right to move onto the Semi-Finals.
For his fine play, even in a losing effort, University of South Carolina shortstop Brock Van Gilder was given the series Most Valuable Player Award. He hit .545, scored 2 runs and batted in 2 to win the honor.
"It's nice that someone noticed my numbers, but I'd trade it in a heartbeat for a win," he said.
The Semi-Finals matchups and schedule will be announced after the Wildcards finishes.
