					| Mets Upend Cardinals, 3-1 |
					| St. Louis got a terrific performance from pitcher Steve Cooper, but it wasn't enough to beat the New York Mets. New York won the Busch Stadium contest, 3-1. Cooper threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. New York now has a record of 29-21 with the win.
New York used the clutch hitting of Lewis Thorpe Jr. to capture the win. The center fielder drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Mets ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"I'm a bit of a clubhouse prankster," said Thorpe Jr.. "But it's all business when we're on the field."
