The Miami Marlins overcame a good performance by Washington second baseman John Sanders to knock off Washington, 7-6, at Nationals Park. Sanders went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Travis Small closed it out for his 5th save. The Marlins raised their record to 13-20.

Matt Altieri had a key at-bat with one out in the top of the sixth for Miami. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Marlins leading 6-2, he hit a sacrifice fly.

"I like to lead by example," said Altieri. "I'm glad I could contribute to a good win."
